About Cremes

ON THE NAME

A lot of people have asked me over the past couple of years that I’ve been writing this thing what exactly “cremes” means. The story is really uninteresting, but I’ll tell you anyway. Back in the days before I got hooked up with computer geniuses and before things like Wordpress.com and Blogger came around, I used to write my “blog” using HTML and I hosted it with Tripod. Most of the blog was site news, things I had updated like photos and short stories. But the name came from my friend Sarah (who still hosts her rarely updated website on Tripod), who named her blog “Creme de la Crud” after my suggestion. The name comes from the adage creme de la creme, which means, best of the best. My suggestion was more suitable for her cynical and humourous rantings. I, being completely unoriginal, couldn’t come up with a better name for my own writings, and called it “Creme de la Sequel”. As time passed, (say, a year) I dropped the “de la Sequel” and added an “s”. If you go with the original saying, I’m calling my own blog simply “bests”. Over time though, it’s come to mean more than that to me. It about the “bests”, surely, but also about the squishy sweetness of life, generally like that found between the two barely edible chocolate cookies that make up the Oreo.
