What’s For Dinner? Part 2

Monday, June 30th, 2008

So you’ve tried the meal planning, the shopping ahead of time, and may have even forayed into using the calendar for weekly meal planning. But there’s still a problem. You get home from work and find yourself too tired to cook one of the dinners that you carefully planned. Welcome to the advanced class! (more…)

What’s For Dinner? Part 1

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Home organization and food are topics that I enjoy reading about and putting into action. Last week I had a stroke of genius in implementing the two together to solve a major problem that I face every weeknight when I arrive from work: What’s for dinner? As progressive as my husband and I are, the kitchen is still the woman’s castle in our place, so this means I’m generally saddled with the bulk of this problem. I’m also a person with a tight biological schedule, and my body needs food preferably before 7pm. So, to battle this problem, I came up with a plan that, on its second week of implementation, seems to function well and keep my tired body sated.

The Home That The Melgares’ Built

Friday, June 13th, 2008

So if you haven’t heard the news yet, we’re having a house built in Pearland! We’re really excited about it, been picking out the brick and tile and carpet and all of that stuff. We still have more decisions to make, but we’re hoping we’ll have it all sorted out by next week. This is our floor plan. We’ll be going to the Design Center on Tuesday evening to make our final decisions on all the interior things (and a few exteriors), and we need to pick out our stone type by Sunday evening. The community is in a really great place, and it’s sort of a small one, so it’s good. No getting lost in it, like Shadow Creek Ranch. That’s actually how we found Southern Trails. We got lost leaving Shadow Creek Ranch. I’m pretty excited about the whole thing. The neighborhood is really new and hopefully there will be lots of good neighbors around. We should be moving in sometimes around October! I’ll definitely be having a housewarming sometimes in November (as long as we get into our home in time).

The big issue that we’re dealing with right now is our apartment situation. We found out that unless we renew for 7 months, the rent is going to be a little bit higher (ok, a lotta bit) than we’re willing to pay. So unless we can get them to bend to our will, it looks like we’ll be living in Friendswood with Mike’s parents for a couple months. Which isn’t all bad, I mean, they have a lot more room. We’ll have to put our things in storage until the house is built, which doesn’t thrill me, but it’s better than overpaying for an apartment. We haven’t completely made the decision yet, but it would definitely save us some money if we could do that.

Other than that, there’s not too much news. Getting a house is pretty huge news though! It hardly counts as news, but Mike bought me a DS for our anniversary. It’s a DS lite, and it’s pink! I’ve been playing Super Princess Peach for days now, it’s such a fun, cute game. The reviews I read were that it was “too easy” and “too girlie” but I think it’s just fine. Really, sometimes I can’t finish games because I think they are too hard. This game, I think, is very enjoyable because it’s not too hard but still interesting. I’m not sure what my next DS game will be but I’m considering a crossword game, My French Coach, or one of the Mario platform games. Also Professor Layton & the Curious Village is a contender. I’m trying to do them one at a time, because otherwise I’ll have a ton of half finished games, like with my Advance.

I’m hoping to put up some pictures of our lot and stuff in the next couple of days. They are currently building the two houses on either side of us, and I can’t wait until they can start on ours! Huzzah! it will probably be another month or so, but all we can do is wait and see. Hopefully I’ll have an update on our living situation soon.

May: The Forgotten Month

Oops.

I knew that I was running out of steam on this whole book thing, and to be perfectly honest, I don’t think I’m going to get to any goal that I’ve set out. I’m still going to keep track, but I’ve been falling way behind on my “schedule” of sorts, and I’m just needing more variety in entertainment these days. Not to mention, I got a Nintendo DS and I’m wanting to spend some time playing with it, and we’ve just been really busy in general. Anyways, here we go for May.
