The Never Ending Series of Mysterious Illnesses

Friday, May 30th, 2008

So I went to my specialist this morning, and after two very uncomfortable procedures, there’s nothing wrong with me. Which doesn’t explain why I keep getting very long-lasting, painful infections. I cried almost the whole way back to work (Mike was driving). It’s sort of ironic that I would be crying after getting the news that I’m in perfect health, but the frustrating bit is that it doesn’t explain these maladies. I’m just not sure what to do with myself.

One thing that I did do was end this ridiculous bladder diet, since it didn’t appear to be doing jack squat anyways. So now I’m happily back to caffeine, tomatoes, and chocolate. As far as things stand now, I’m just waiting and seeing what happens next with my crazy body. Regardless, I’m feeling a little cheated out of the whole specialist thing, even though I really liked her. I’d like to get a second opinion, but I dread going through those tests again.

Where Have I Been?

I don’t even know where to begin answering that question. I’ve had the best intentions, but it seems that every time I get on track with something, an illness of some sort hits me full force. I’m still dealing with a UTI from several weeks back, and between specialists appointments, my demanding reading schedule, work, and the rest of life, it’s been near impossible to sit down and research a blog post. I have more ideas than time to write them all in. Of course, I could have taken the time I used to play Mario Kart Wii to whip up some prose, but we all need a break once in awhile. I’ve been dying to quit the full-time employment scene but it feels like I’m continually being met with resistance. I’ve even fantasized about being fired, although I can’t think of any grounds for that. Maybe all my absences, but unfortunately most doctors’ offices aren’t open after 5pm on Friday. Anyways, I hope to have something for you all in a few weeks, and maybe write several posts to be waiting in the wings so there aren’t too many more long absences from this blog!

“No Vacation Goes Unpunished”

One of the big buzzes lately in the American politicosphere is about Senator McCain’s bid for a “gas tax holiday” for three months, which would remove the 18 cent federal tax on gasoline purchases from Memorial Day through to Labour Day (typically when gas prices seem to rise due to increased travel). There’s lots of talk on the internet about how terrible this idea really is, citing that it won’t help to stabilize the economy, that we’ll encourage more use of a source of energy that is harmful to the environment, and that it is merely a band-aid fix or political tactic merely to gain entry into the presidency. Beaten.

So I guess I shouldn’t have bragged about how long it had been since I was “traditionally” sick. A year ago I had that mysterious illness that kept me in bed for like two weeks, then I was sick a couple days in September because of allergies, then a couple of bladder infections and bouts of insomnia, but other than those random things, I’ve been the picture of health. Sure hasn’t seemed like it, but the last time I was sick with a cold was February in 2007. Of course, I hate missing all this work (even though I don’t really like work, but I’d rather choose to stay home and actually do fun things rather than lay in bed barely able to breathe) and I know they are getting frustrated with me. I’m currently using up my vacation time, so if I want to do any weddings this summer I’m going to have to work some comp time. Anyways, I’ve got some blog posts I’m working on but since I’ve been sick and stuff I haven’t done much besides watch Dr Phil and blow my nose. On the plus side, Suzi is delighted that I’m home because she gets to snuggle with me.

April’s Fool

So hurray! Another month of books and I haven’t given up yet! I really thought there was danger of that last month, I spent a fair chunk of time reading and was ready to stop. Despite the fact that I spent more time doing things besides reading, I still managed to get several reads in. The biggest slowdown this month was one particular book that took me forever. Also, I ended up getting some new albums recently (Tara MacLean and Donna Lewis! Yay!) so instead of listening to audio books at work and in the car, I chose my new tunes. I’m sorta getting overwhelmed with books though, so I hope that I can get back into the game for May and up those numbers again. Here we go. (more…)
