Seeking a Tryptophan Coma

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

So tomorrow is the American edition of Turkey Day, otherwise known as Thanksgiving. We’ll be heading to the traditional dinner at Mike’s Dad’s cousin’s place. Well, traditional for them, it’s only my second go round. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and having some good food. The rest of the weekend is pretty up in the air. I may or may not be doing Black Friday this year. Giving up sleeping in isn’t going to be easy, but I need to do some shopping for the man in my life.

So things have been a little off these days. I’m hating my job even more than usual. A particular bad day yesterday propelled me to pick up “What Color Is Your Parachute?”; a book about finding a new job/career. I’ve also had a renewed urgency to complete my GRE exam, and hope to get started on that really soon. I just feel miserable at this job. Each day it’s harder to get up out of bed. I’ve got five wonderful days off though, so maybe that will give me the break I need to get me through the next month until my two week vacation. I honestly don’t see how I’m going to make it another year or so at this place though. For now, I’m going to work on my GRE and see about starting classes fall 2008, and read the Parachute book. Hopefully by January/February I’ll have more of an idea what I’m going to do with myself, but I just know that I can’t stick to the status quo without trying to find something better.

We are possibly putting our Christmas tree up this weekend. I know it seems early, but when you have a faker then you might as well milk it. I’ll be switching up the music on my iPod soon to put more Christmas music on for the office, to make things at least a little festive. Blanca bought a pink mini-tree so that should be fun. I’ve also got some Christmas reading material that I want to get to once I finish all 6 books that I’m currently reading now. I need to start finishing books before I start others, but I have so many categories of books. There’s my active reading, which is generally the one I read when I sit down with the purpose of reading - but right now that consists of two books, “Stardust” and “Parachute”. Then there’s my audiobooks, which I always have one going (currently Suze Orman’s “Women & Money”), and my quick reading for when I’m just killing time (”Giftionary”) and then the GRE book I started and the eBay book I never really got into. I think that’s all of them. I just have so many books I want to read and so little time to read them.

I’m very much looking forward to my Christmas vacation in Canada. I’ll be packing my warm clothes, knee socks and new wool coat. And my snow boots! Not that I’m looking forward to the possibility of snow. I already know that I’m going to freeze my tushie off. I’m cold here all the time. I’ve been wearing my warm clothes already. My office is freezing so I need to wear thick socks and sweaters pretty much everyday.

Today’s commentary topic: Recommend me a good book you’ve read in the past 5 years.
