So last night I had a weird cough that I just couldn’t shake, and it seems to have erupted into a mini-sickness. I wouldn’t say cold because right now it just seems to be affected my head and throat (and coughing mechanism) but I’m definitely feeling under the weather. I was supposed to volunteer this morning at the library in Pearland but when 8am rolled around I knew I was not getting out of bed. I’d really rather be in bed now, honestly, but I made myself get up. I hate it when I get sick when I had plans. It’s one thing to be sick and be like, “oh well, I hadn’t planned anything today anyways” but when I have to cancel things it gets to me. I have so little on my plate in a general week that cancelling anything pretty much means any extra social interaction is cut off. Yesterday was a fun evening though, we had Mike’s parents over for Shepherd’s Pie (one of my Heat N Eats) and then Jose stayed for a few hours and played the Wii with Mike, while I got some baking done.
As for the Heat N Eat meals, I don’t think anything could have prepared for me it. It was really hard to get everything done! For starters, there is a lot of prep involved. I had to cut and/or peel 2 large onions, 2 bags of carrots (so 4 lbs), almost 10 parsnips, and about 7 lbs of potatoes. And this is before I can even put anything in the oven! Then, after the chickens are done roasting, you have to wait about 45 minutes for them to be cool enough to de-bone, instead of the 10-15 minutes that the recipe says. By then, the other chicken is almost cooked and everything is getting cold! And still, you have to assemble three meals. That part wouldn’t have been so bad if my pans had been big enough to hold everything. And I kept having to re-use dishes like mixing bowls because I just didn’t have enough. And all of the meals absolutely had more than 4 servings, because we only managed to eat half of the Shepherd’s Pie last night and there were four of us! And several people had seconds! We are going to have food for a long long time. I’m glad I had to separate the pasta dish into two meals, because that’s really what it is. So far though, they taste pretty good and that’s what’s important. I’m not holding out much hope for the Chicken Enchiladas but we’ll see.
Just as a side note, I wanted to mention a book trading site that I belong to, PaperBackSwap.com. It’s only for Americans I believe (Yes – but maybe not for long!) but it’s pretty neat. I haven’t really done much yet, I uploaded my 9 books to start out and ordered “Good in Bed” by Jennifer Weiner, but it hasn’t arrived yet. I’m also supposed to send out “The Undomestic Goddess” before Friday, so I’ll be getting more credits. It’s a pretty neat service and free except for the shipping, which is only a few dollars. I’m pretty excited about it, and it seems to be a good way to get books! Between this and the library I’ll be able to keep myself in books for the next little while, while I am unemployed and saving for college. I might even be able to get college texts on there, but I’m not holding my breath. (I believe there’s another site like this specifically for college texts anyways.)
Well, I guess that’s all from me. I’ll probably watch some more “Grease: You’re The One That I Want” today. (Anybody else watching this? It’s like American Idol on Broadway.) And maybe play some Gameboy or something. Sigh. Friggin’ being sick!

[...] I mentioned awhile back that I joined PaperBackSwap.com. So far my experience has been very positive! I’ve received several books already and they are in great condition, and sent out a bunch of book and even though I chose not to do the Delivery Confirmation thing, they always reach their destinations with no problems. It’s been two months already, and I have more books than I can read! I’ve got 5 books that I need to finish already! A couple of those aren’t from PaperBackSwap, but the point is that I’ve got loads of books and I haven’t had to pay for one of them! It’s great! Today I added a bunch of books that I had bought while I was in FYP at Kings’ (my first year of university) and I was amazed at how many of them were on other’s wish lists! I might be getting a boatload of credits over the next few weeks. It’s so great because I’m getting something of equal (or more) value. Not really on a price scale, but old books that I wouldn’t be able to sell for what I paid for them, I’m getting books that I can get use out of. [...]
