Today is my last full day in Canada. Tomorrow sometimes (early) I’m heading out to Houston with kitty cat and Visa in tow. I’m pretty friggin’ excited for it all, and it’s been a long time coming, that’s for sure. I’m ready to get on with my life and start being a married person. I’ll definitely be making a longer post in the future about how it all went down, but for now I need to meet my roomie from first year for lunch, then finish packing, scoop up Alley and head to the hotel for my last night in Canada. YAY!

Is it just the dust of leaving you
Thursday, October 19th, 2006So I’m on the road, heading out to Texas! Well, not actually on the road at this very moment, but I have left Yarmouth behind and I’m on the way to bigger and better things. There’s a little part of me that’s a bit wistful but not for the things I should be missing. I’m going to miss seeing the Christmas lights and the softly falling snow (but not the walking around in waist-high slush!) Being in Yarmouth mall during the Christmas rush! (Bigger malls ahead of me though!) I think I miss the idea of being away from my childhood home more than anything else. I am leaving lots of relationships behind but I’m sure I’ll be keeping in touch and alla that jazz. I’m just so excited to begin the next phase of my life. I’m a married woman, graduate of Acadia University, and ready to start a new live in a new country!
Little pieces of relocation
Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006I’ve been preparing myself for the big move, slowly but surely. After work today, I sent out two packages to our apartment. One was the prints that I received as a wedding present from Mandy and the other was a small boxful of clothes. Mostly summer things, but I threw in some underwear, socks, and a pair of jeans. Things that I definitely won’t be wearing over the next couple of weeks! It’s been pretty chilly lately. Sweaters are an every day garment these days. That was $60 to send both boxes and have them packed up, so I’m pretty happy about that. Not as expensive as I thought it would be. I ordered new contacts and those have come in, so next chance I get I’ll be picking those up as well. It probably will not be this week, but I have a chance next week – my last week of work. And it’s only a four day week because Monday is a holiday. (I wonder if I get holiday pay for that one too?) I guess the new girl started tonight, so hopefully that worked out. I don’t know if I’ll even meet her or not. I haven’t seen her come in to buy work clothes or anything, so I’m not sure about her.
After work today, I headed to get my truck since it was ready for pickup – it’s now back at the dealership. It was worse than before, and I didn’t even make it most of the way home. Luckily, the loaner that I got today was an updated version of the last one. So now I have keyless entry, power windows, and a CD player. What more can a girl ask for? Besides her trusty truck that is. I even hugged the steering wheel when I got in. I’ve taken the hug back! Stupid truck. At least my loaner isn’t as abhorable as it once was. I do know that I’m never getting a minivan.
The next steps for moving are to gather all of my stuff into my room and sort it out. What can stay, what must come, what is negotiable. I’m sure I have a ton of garbage that I can just dump. Well, however much garbage one can build up in 5 months. That means I have to sort through my mail and dump old statements and save important papers and such. I’ve changed my address for Acadia correspondence, so they will send my degree to the new address. Wee! My degree! It’s been a long time in coming and I’m definitely happy to have completed my undergraduate.
So, preparations are taking place! Only another 2 weeks to go and then I’ll be on my way to Halifax, so packing must be completed and this bride has to be ready to hit the road! I’m getting pretty psyched about the whole thing. It will be nice to be outta here and on to bigger and better things. Wee!
