Freedom at last!… (for a week.)

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

Yippee! I am free from schoolwork until Monday the 8th! It feels like sunshine and rainbows and happiness! Tonight I can go out with April and the gang and not have to worry about schoolwork when I return! I’m pretty ecstatic about the whole thing. I can’t remember the last time I didn’t have that little voice in my head saying “psst, you have schoolwork to do!” It seems like I’ve been constantly studying since.. well a year ago basically. Even longer than that, since two Decembers ago! Yeesh. But finally, I have time to myself and I couldn’t be happier. Sure, it’s only for a week but I definitely intend to enjoy the week. I purchased myself a bicycle helmet today at Canadian Tire and it even matches my bike! I also got a lock for it so I can ride around Wolfville for the next while and build up some leg and butt muscles! Wee! I’m pretty excited to get back into my cross-stitching and reading too. I’ve got only like 500 books that I want to read! Yeesh. It’s kinda liberating to know that I have no responsibilities at the moment. No school, no work, just relaxation! I don’t even have any thank you notes to write up! (Yet.) I do need to do some running around in Yarmouth next week for wedding stuff though. I ordered the cake today from the Superstore, so that is done. Still lots more to do but it’s starting to lessen. Only a about a month left, the count down is on! My exercise and diet have been doing wonders and I feel great. I’ve also been using those Crest Whitestrips and mom says that she can tell the difference already. I still have a little bit over a week to go before I’m finished with them, but it’s exciting that they are already noticably different. It will be awesometastic to have everything all good and ready for the wedding. I’ve been getting people’s RSVPs and stuff, so that’s good. So hurray for freedom and stuff! I’ll probably be around more now, at least until I find out what my summer work load is going to be like! :P

New look!

Friday, April 28th, 2006

WHOA! Yay for something different! I was in the middle of writing my essay and realized that my blog was starting to look boring. The same thing, all the time – yech! So I decided to download some new themes for something new to look at. I was ready for a change anyways! I’ve got 5 pages written on my essay so that’s good so far. I figure after supper I’ll attempt to finish it off, although the absolutely last thing that I want to do right now is this paper. I really don’t even care about what grade I get on it, I just want it to be over. I’ve written almost 3000 words already and it’s still only about half of what I need to write. I’m not going to reach 20 pages, I know that already. I just can’t handle doing anymore research than is absolutely necessary and I’m just sick of schoolwork right now. I’m ready to pass it in half done, I’m so fed up. But I can’t do that because I need to graduate, so I’ll keep at it. I think there is a threshhold of how many papers someone can write in one year before they lose their sanity. Including this paper – I’ve written 24 in the past 12 months. That’s an average of two per month! Insanity! No wonder I’ve been having to push myself to write this last one. Ok. *takes deep breath* Just 3000 more words and then I won’t have to write another paper for at least 1 month, if not never again!! Well, until grad school. But I just need a break!

WHOOP

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

Yay! Just got all my marks in and they were: B, B+, 2 A-’s, and 1 A! Huzzah! My GPA for both terms combined was 3.5 – pretty much what I’d wanted since I started university. Unfortunately, my overall GPA is still stuck at 3.19. All those As and stuff only brought it up from a 3.13. Once you have four years of grades, things don’t move very far on the overall GPA which saddens me. Oh well, I still have these two summers courses to add on to the GPA and possibly a grade from the distance course, but I think that all transfer credits only go into the transcript as pass or fail. Which makes it odd that I’m bending all over myself to do a good job on the paper but I think it has more to do with me hating to churn out a crappy paper than the grade itself.

Anyways, I intend to write up something tonight to email my prof, we’ll see how that goes. I’m going to lose a few hours out of my evening to go do wedding stuff tonight, so I need to get cracking on the reading and writing. Sigh, I can’t wait until this is over!!!!

There’s a hole in my eye, dear ‘Liza…

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

So yeah, went to the eye doctor yesterday to get that stupid dilation thing. If anyone’s ever had to go through it before you know what I’m talking about. They give you these drops and then you have to sit there for 15 minutes while your near vision slowly gets completely blurred up (so you can’t read while you wait… rawr…). Anyways, after that they look into your eyes with lights and microscopes and such for about 20 minutes. And then they tell you that you may have a hole in your eye and you have to do it all again for a specialist next week!! GAH! Ok, so maybe the ending is usually “and then you go home and squint for an hour” – I had that too, but I guess next week I’ll be seeing an ophtholomist or something of the sort. Grrr-bah! Anyways, I’m not very impressed about this, but at least it will be after my research essay in completed. Then it’s back to the eye doctor next week to figure out if my new contact lens is nifty cool or not. So far I have great vision in my right eye (where the new lens is) but my left is isn’t keeping up anymore. So my centre vision is friggin’ blurry. I may have to get out my old prescription because I don’t think that I can read like this. Oh, and I’m getting my new glasses next week so that will be awesome. Finally, I’ll have frames that look half decent on me.

Uhhh I guess that’s all that’s new. We picked up some wedding things yesterday and I got Mackenzie’s Flower girl gift. I also got a new pair of workout shorts because they were on sale and so cute! They are pink terrycloth and very comfy. Anyways, time to hit the “gym” (I’ve made a makeshift home-gym for the meantime…) and then to get cracking on the essay researching. I wanted to complete a draft for tomorrow evening, so we’ll see if that actually happens! :P Darn school, can’t wait until it’s over.

Not quite ready for the happy dance, but almost!

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

So today I wrote my last exam of the winter semester. Hurrah! I can’t believe that semester is finally over. Just this damn research paper left, which I’m going to focus my energies on all weekend and hopefully complete it. It would be nice to be able to relax a bit over the next little while. I haven’t decided when I’m driving back to Yarmouth, but it will probably be Saturday or Sunday because it’s giving sunshine and I HATE driving in the rain. And then of course I will be starting classes again on May 8th. I’m kind of nervous about first year psych. I haven’t had a non-arts course in awhile, excepting Spanish. And that was easy, especially since I had Mike right there to explain it to me. Anyone out there taken first year psych? Please calm my nerves! I’m not worried at all about my second course, I mean – another history course? Second year? Piece o’ cake! Especially since the prof is excellent. Poulter is a great prof and so interesting. Plus she gave me a great mark on my essay.

Wedding plans are on the way to getting completed too. I got a bunch of things done last week. Flowers are ordered, fake ones are bought. Dooly’s is ours the night of June 2nd. (I got 3 pool tables, that should be plenty.) My nails are pretty. (Essential for any wedding to go smoothly, the bride needs to be pampered.) I’ve just got to figure out the rehearsal dinner and a few other odds and ends. Mandy, I’m going to get you to put together the wedding favours, I’ve almost got all the materials together for that. Lyssa needs to write the wedding date and stuff on the little tags I’m making, but first I need to make them before she can write on them… we will get this done someday! I’m having another wedding shower, this one is in Argyle, and everyone can come. It’s May 5th at 7pm at the legion hall in Central Argyle. So come one, come all. We’re doing a money tree, so make sure that any actual gifts are sent down to Texas. I’m trying to pack light for the big move. As for the move itself, still haven’t heard from immigration but they should be working on our file really soon. Hurrah! All of youse in Halifax, I’m looking for fake rose/flower petals. They have some at the dollar store here, but I’m looking for pale yellow or white, and they don’t have anything pale enough. So please look around the dollar stores and craft stores for me, it would be much appreciated. The invitations went out today (finally!) so be on the lookout for those as well. I have a few extra, so wedding party members may get to have one. (I know Mandy’s excited!) I think that’s all for the wedding… There will probably be more updates on the wedding now that I’ve got more time to friggin plan it.

Anyways, that’s all for now. Toodles!

Easter Weekend and Research Paper Madness

Monday, April 17th, 2006

So I had a good Easter weekend. I finished up with my exam around 11am on Saturday, then I grabbed a quick lunch and brought Alley to the vet for her tranquilizer, which sort of worked but she never did fall asleep. She is one stubborn cat. I drove home and hit pouring rain just outside of Yarmouth. This place has the worst weather I’ve ever seen. I left sun and warm in Wolfville and got rain and ick over here. I had a good Easter dinner with the family, and then me and Holly went into Yarmouth to see Ice Age 2, which was very cute.

I’m going to be heading back up on Wednesday to make sure that I study for my Thursday night exam, then I’m back down here sometimes over the weekend. I’ve got so much wedding planning to do that it will be impossible to get it all done in two days. My plan is to work on the research paper until Wednesday, go up and write up my outline and my exam and then head down and finish off the paper. And then have some time to actually relax! Wow, I never thought it would actually come to an end, but it is almost here. If only I can stay awake long enough to get all this research done – it’s friggin’ boring me to sleep. Not to mention the house is freezing, so I’m huddled on mom’s laz-e-boy with the heat cranked up on it. Brrrrrrr. Anyways, I should go workout and try to wake up! More later!

Ouchie, my fingers!

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

Wow, so I just finished writing two exams. One was at 7pm last night and it took me just about the whole three hours, it was one heck of an exam. I ended up getting an A on the paper so yay me! I let out a little yip of joy when I saw it. I hope that I did well because the exam was worth 40% of my mark. Yeesh. I studied for three days and I wrote until my fingers fell off, so hopefully I wrote enough. My exam this morning was from 9am until noon, and I managed to get out of there at 11. That one is only worth 30%, still a large chunk but a little less. Of course one of the questions was about an article I didn’t have the chance to read, I mean two exams back to back is just insane. Especially when you are really worried about the one before it. My next few exams should be decent. I have one tomorrow from 2-5pm and then one Saturday morning. I intend to study as much as possible for these ones and then concentrate on my research paper over next week while studying intermittently for my Canadian History exam, which shouldn’t be too bad at all in comparison to the ones I’ve already written. I hate being stuck inside studying on such gorgeous days though. It’s 17C out there today!! That so beautiful, warmest weather we’ve had yet, and I’m stuck studying. Of course, it’s giving rain most of the rest of the week. It’s so discouraging! I’m planning to head down to the gym sometimes this afternoon and do a bit of treadmilling, hopefully to break up the monotony of studying. I’m pretty sure I did well on his exams last year, but I also had them as take homes :P so it’s hard to gauge how these ones will go when I have to study them beforehand.

I made an appointment at Design Line in Yarmouth for a manicure and pedicure next week. It will be JUST in time for me to be ready to relax a bit before the final bit of this semester. I’m very much looking forward to it. I called all over Wolfville and no one was doing it until Saturday, and I have to drive home that day after my exam. I’ve got Alley to worry about, and probably some packing. And who knows if I will be writing my exam until 12 or not. Yeesh, plus I have to clean up this place a little bit. My living room has stayed pretty clean though, which is great. I’m definitely a busy girl these days, I can’t wait until I can relax.
