Some Hearts

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

I’ve never been the kind that you call lucky
Always stumblin’ around in circles
but I must’ve stumbled into something
Look at me, am I really alone with you?

I wake up feeling like my life’s worth living
Can’t recall when I last felt that way
Guess it must be all this love you’re giving
Never knew, never knew
it could be like this…
But I guess

Some hearts, they just get all the right breaks
some hearts have the stars on their side
Some hearts, they just have it so easy
Some hearts just get lucky sometimes

Some hearts just get lucky, lucky sometimes…

Now who’d have thought someone like you could love me?
You’re the last thing my heart expected
Who’d have thought I’d ever find somebody
Someone who, someone who makes me feel like this…
Well, I guess

Some hearts, they just get all the right breaks
some hearts have the stars on their side
Some hearts, they just have it so easy
Some hearts just get lucky sometimes…

When Rentals Go Red

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

I had another blog here that I posted from the other computer, but obviously something wonky happened and it broke my Cremes, so I decided that since it wasn’t important anyways — it gets the cut. I have something more important to discuss here (haha) and none of you need to know the boring details of “ooh, I turned in two assignments today.”

Today I witnessed something that makes me wonder about a lot of things. I got an email from my Zip.ca people, with the subject “Zip.ca Service Announcement.” I was like, yeah ok, probably something lame. No. Basically it said that my “unlimited” DVD rental membership had limited rentals with free shipping. So if I go over 11 rentals in one month — which is entirely likely if I have a month with not much schoolwork — I have to pay 2.29 per rental. WHAT? Why am I paying $24.99 a month then? For 11 DVDs with free shipping? What is the world coming too? When I purchased this, I assumed that I had unlimited DVDs with free shipping. That means as many as I want! Not 11! That’s not “unlimited”!!!

Their service is spotty enough as it is. It is an 8-day turn around for a DVD. They never send me the movies at the top of my queue, and instead send me DVDs that are at like #50. I’ve recieved no less than 4 DVDs that were so damaged I couldn’t watch them. If there was an alternative, I would go for it. This is ridiculous. I can’t wait to be done with Zip and have Netflix again.

Hrm…

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

“Our foremothers may have known that the details of daily survival and human touch dominate our lives, not brief moments of public recognition or a few minutes in a voting booth.” – Elizabeth Jameson, Women as Workers, Women as Civilizers, page 161.

I thought it made sense in context with current events. I don’t feel like any less of a woman because I didn’t vote — although I mostly didn’t vote because of inconvenience, not because I don’t care or didn’t feel like it. I didn’t set back the suffrage movement (that some would argue happened more because men decided to give it to us than we actually won it, see the article quoted above in its entirely for more thoughts on that) and really, exercising my democratic right won’t make me a better human being. It’s human contacts that really matter.

Another Week Begins

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

Weekend’s over and here we are at Monday. Casey and I are heading downtown to get some errands done just as soon as she gets out of her meeting. Interesting to see what will come out of that. Anyways, I, of course, got most of my work done on Sunday – it seems that I get to panicking over it and get more done than when it’s Friday and Saturday when I think, ohh I’ve got the whole weekend! I need to stop doing that, or get more done during the week. I’ve made a schedule of assignments and stuff that are due and I stuck it on my corkboard, so hopefully everything will get accomplished. I’m going to try and get my group project going for Non Western history because I really want to be able to fly out on Friday instead of Saturday. I emailed my prof asking and he said we had to pick topics first, so maybe if our group has a topic, we’ll be all set. I’ve got two assignments due this week (already, geez) so I’ve gotta get cracking on those tonight. I’m also starting to run out of clothes to wear, so I should probably do something about that! It’s supposed to snow tonight, but as long as it holds off for awhile I might be able to get a load done.

Once my zits clear up, I think I’m going to get my photos taken for graduation. It’s pretty exciting! I can’t believe it’s finally time for me to not be in school for awhile…. Wow. And really, if I find a good job without my grad degree, I might think twice about going back. It looks like the job I want requires a MLIS though. It’s too bad, I just want to be out there and working. School is fine and all, but enough is enough. Especially after this year, I’ve practically driven myself mad. After this semester, my stress levels will go down a lot. Two classes in the span of like 6 months will be a piece of cake. I’ll probably register for my Acadia distance course during exams. Wee! After exams, that Acadia course and one Athabasca course is all that I’ll need! :D Man, I just can’t wait to have that degree on my wall.

The Only Living Boy In New York

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know your part’ll go fine.
Fly down to mexico.
Da-n-da-da-n-da-n-da-da and here I am,
The only living boy in new york.
I get the news I need on the weather report.
I can gather all the news I need on the weather report.
Hey, I’ve got nothing to do today but smile.
Da-n-da-da-n-da-da-n-da-da here I am
The only living boy in new york

Half of the time we’re gone but we don’t know where,
And we don’t know where.

Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know you’ve been eager to fly now.
Hey let your honesty shine, shine, shine
Da-n-da-da-n-da-da-n-da-da
Like it shines on me
The only living boy in new york,
The only living boy in new york.
