Trials of The Sick and Coughing

Sunday, November 13th, 2005

I went back into my archives again today to reread about that awful flu I had last year, to see how long it was before I started with the stuffy nose, well, I was completely cured in a week, but Sunday and Monday were the worst two days. Here we are Sunday and I still have the sore throat and my cough has gotten worse, but no stuffy nose yet. I’m not sure if there isn’t a stuffy nose with this particular virus, which is rather odd, and if the sore throat is EVER going to go away.

Man, I think I even started it on the same day. Well, they say that the average flu/cold takes about 2 weeks to fully run its course but the symptoms ease up before then. Hopefully by tomorrow I will be fully lots better because I have stuff to do, if I was out of laundry last week you can only imagine the current situation. Although, my current attire of PJs isn’t really hurting my outdoor clothes stash. I also realized I have a lot of clothes here that no longer fit. Which saddens me. Once I get better I’ll have to attack my closet.

In the event that I feel naseous, I still have that Gravol from last year (Americans that don’t know what Gravol is click here), so at least I won’t have to throw up. They are also good for when you are naseated and can’t sleep, as I found out last year and not being able to sleep a whole night and throwing up. (See last blog entry referenced)

I also found it interesting that the last time I was sick like this, it was one month before I was supposed to fly to Texas. Hopefully the trend of me getting sick on my way TO Texas won’t happen! It’s different being sick for a week when I’m supposed to be there for 4 months, but only 2 1/2 weeks doesn’t leave much time!!

Advil is My Friend

Friday, November 11th, 2005

Well, it’s day 3 of sickness, and still no better. I imagine this is the day that it will start getting worse. Luckily, nothing is open today so I have a reason to stay in bed all day (It’s Rememberance Day for all you non-Canadians). I really need to go to the drug store though, so maybe if I’m feeling better tomorrow I will go. I need toothpaste in the worst way, not to mention q-tips and soft kleenex. All they had at the convenience store across the street is that nasty no-name 2 ply junk. I bought two boxes but if last year was any indication I will probably go through that rather quickly and have a very irritated nose.

Today I plan to do some studying while my head is still clear. I’m tired and my throat is killing me, but I can still read and stuff. I also have some Sinutab laying around in case my sinuses decide to join the party. I went to the doctor last night, and of course, there was nothing he could do for me. I did get him to write me a doctor’s note because there was no way I was going to class yesterday, it was pouring rain and I was feeling awful. I think I was in bed pretty much until 4:30. But yeah, studying and possibly movie watching today. All I can say is, I don’t know what I would do if I had a PC, or if we didn’t have wireless. I remember last year when I was sick that the ethernet cord was hardly long enough to reach my bed. I was in the living room for most of my sickness, but after awhile I just couldn’t leave the bed. The gameboy is also helpful for staying bed. Really, I don’t have to leave my room, I have movies, games, and communication, all right here. Oh yeah, and school work haha. Not to mention my cute kitty cat!

Well, I’m going to be brave and go outside and check the mail, then we’ll see about that studying.

Sick. Real Ick.

Man, it would figure that I would have to get sick JUST when I’m throwing myself headfirst into schoolwork. I’m always cold or hot or something, my appetite has gone way down (and that’s saying something) and I have no strength or want to do anything but lay in bed in my PJs. Anyone that knows me really well knows that I’m not feeling good when that happens. So I’m definitely going to try and take it easy today and tomorrow, I just have that final to do then hopefully I’ll be able to come back home and spend the weekend taking it easy. I have absolutely no clothes left besides PJs, so I’m going to have to make myself go downtown to the bank tomorrow. I don’t know why the stupid store across the street won’t just break down and give us loonies. Grr.

Anyways, it’s looking like a bad couple of days ahead, hopefully I’ll be able to get enough rest and fend off this thing before the weekend is over, instead of that weeklong sick thing I had last year. Sigh. I guess it’s better that it happens a couple weeks before my essays are due.

Halifax Trip

Saturday, November 5th, 2005

Yesterday was pretty fun! When did loads of shopping in Halifax Shopping Centre and I got a new wool peacoat out of the deal, from Reitman’s. I also got a new touque, it’s pink and white and lined on the inside, so it will keep my head nice and warm this winter. I also picked up a Spyro game for the GBA, which happened to be the same one that I had on my Amazon wishlist. I saw Sword of Mana there too, but decided to wait for that one.

After shopping till dropping, we said goodbye to Alyssa and headed downtown. Mom and I dropped off Mandy at work, then went to the art store on Barrington St. because that’s where I was meeting Mimi. After that we went to Thomasino’s for dinner while Mom met up with her twin and went to Mother Tucker’s. The food was GREAT at Thomasino’s. We also ordered some wine, which is something I rarely do, but it was yummy wine, now that I know how to drink it so that it doesn’t burn! (Tip: breathe through your nose very deeply before you sip, it helps!)

Anyways, nothing new going on today I don’t think. Possibly some movie-watching later, but I definitely have to do some homework today!

Air Conditioning Should NOT Be Permitted North of the Border

Thursday, November 3rd, 2005

I’m sitting INSIDE, freezing my hiney off, wearing a tank top, sweater/shirt thing, and my first degree winter coat over it. In my apartment, where the heat is at 60F, I was sweating this morning while getting ready for class, wearing the same attire minus the coat. It just seems wrong to me to be so cold. It’s November already, turn off the stinkin’ air! This is why we don’t have it in houses. We just don’t need it. I agree in large public buildings with many people and little air circulation it might be necessary (such as the 3rd floor in the library, man I should go there…), but geez, when you can’t even sit in class without shivering into your jacket something is wrong.

Anyways, I didn’t even mean to turn this entry into a rant, I just kinda got on the subject by freezing to death.

Tomorrow I’m heading to Halifax for the day with my mom and possibly my aunt Donna. I’m going to meet up with Mandy for shopping (yay!) and Mimi for supper (also yay!), and hopefully get a new winter coat out of the deal. I’m going to try and limit my spending because my funds are starting to get depleted, but I might pick myself up something if it’s on sale, like maybe a new DVD. Heaven knows that my DVDs are getting quite the watching out of them with the frequent movie nights as of late!

I’ve got to say that I’m really enjoying being a member of Zip.ca. I’ve been getting to watch loads of cool movies that I’ve been dying to see, not to mention TV series that I’ve been meaning to watch or have been recommended to me, and even getting a few new favorites under my belt, like Arrested Development par exemple. I’m getting Canadian Bacon in soon, haha. That should be fun. The DVDs are kinda slow to get to Ontario since when I return them that’s where they go, on average it takes 4-5 days for them to get there. But it usually takes much less time for them to be returned, because the mail probably runs on Saturdays over there.

Nothing new to report in the school part, been studying lots as per usual, but I’ve got more of a break these days. I still haven’t finished that stupid distance course, my exam is scheduled for the tenth so hopefully I can get this finished and be done with it. Then I have to get started on my Athabasca course again, but chances are I won’t get to it this month. I have 5 essays due by the end of the month, so I’m trying to get them done earlier rather than deal with churning out many essays in the span of three days.

Only 46 days until I’m outta Canada for a few weeks, only 28 days left of class, only 44 days left till exams are over, and only 52 days left until Christmas. Yeehaw!
