Yeehaw, ya’ll!

Monday, February 21st, 2005

Well, I’ve returned to the Lone Star state once again! My flight itself was full of enough adventure to last awhile. We got to Newark early, and waited in front of our gate for like 30-45 minutes waiting for them to move some plane out from it. That gave me 30 minutes to go through customs, collect my bags, go back through security, get lost, and then run like mad to gate #85, which was at the farthest farthest end of the airport. I even heard my name over the loudspeaker, telling me to get to gate 85 asap. When I heard it, I was already gasping for air as I was running through a crowded airport with two pieces of luggage, a backpack, and a winter coat. NO fun! But for my second layover, I ended up coming out of the same gate that I was supposed to find to catch my next flight, so that was nice. I wandered around a little bit looking for something that wasn’t Coke but to no avail.

It was nice to get on solid ground though. Mike brought me to Denny’s after we collected my bags and stuff so I got some eats after living on pretzels for most of the day. Yesterday we went shopping at the hugest mall ever, the Galleria, and I ended up buying this HOT new dress. I feel like a million bucks when I wear it, it’s perfect for our fancy dinner that I’m expecting whenever we get to San Antonio next weekend. I promise I’ll get some pictures of me in the awesome new dress, because it’s definitely awesome! I also met a few more members of Mike’s extended family, and apparently when I went to the bathroom, they all talked about me. But I hear it was good things, and that’s always nice. Better than being run out of the family.

Today we did a bit more shopping, including books into the clothing spending spree. I picked up The Virgin Suicides (the movie was pretty good stuff), and Mike picked up High Fidelity, which I will promptly borrow once he’s finished. Then we made a clean sweep of Old Navy where I convinced Mike “I hate shopping” Melgares to buy a new shirt and two pairs of pants. I got myself two pink button down shirts, and when we ventured into the mall I got a nice brown hoodie with pink letters on it from Aeropostale, which happens to be the store with that awesometastic skirt that I really really want. THAT DOESN’T EXIST ANYMORE! *sobs* (I just checked online, and it’s GONE! Grrrrrr, them!)

Anyways, tomorrow is a whole new adventure, and I imagine I’ll have more to say then. Right now my contacts are starting to bother me so I’m going to get ready for bed. Bye y’all! :D

Only 3 More Days!

Tuesday, February 15th, 2005

My vacation is starting really soon!! I’m so excited. I keep checking the weather forecasts and it’s giving 20ºC and up temperatures! Soon I’ll have to pack up all my tanks and some jeans. Maybe a sweater. I doubt I’ll need it, I’m starting to rethink bringing my winter jacket! Packing light is the main goal, since my suitcase is teeny tiny. I might be borrowing one of Robyn’s so maybe I’ll be able to bring enough junk to keep me happy for a week. I promise to get Mike to take pictures, so I can post them. Especially in San Antonio, I’m really looking forward to seeing a new Texan city. Other than that, I’ll just be looking forward to being with Mike. It’s nice to have a break from all the distance.

The rest of the week for me consists of studying, working and trying to pack. It’s cool that I’m not working at Paddy’s this week but I can still make money. I’m really liking this library job. I’ve put in 6 hours this week already. The only problem is that the paycheque is delayed by 2 weeks, but oh well. Hopefully I’ll be able to sort things out and get my credit card bill paid on time! Oh yeah, and that little thing called rent, too.

Valentine’s Day: The Girlfriend’s Perspective

Friday, February 11th, 2005

After reading my boyfriend’s nice long rant about Valentine’s Day, I thought I would share my own reasonings for liking such a day. I mean, what girl doesn’t love the idea of her boyfriend giving her flowers and candy on a designated day of the year? Why can’t this be any random day of the year, he asks.

Well, it’s doesn’t usually happen that way. Not many guys will randomly surprise their girl with something pretty and chocolatey just one day. It’s convenient for men, they just have to remember that it’s Valentine’s Day and voila, they have a happy girlfriend. But it’s not about the flowers and candy, at all, really.

The Merits of A Good Education

Tuesday, February 8th, 2005

When I was in high school, I pretty much thought that it was a joke. I mean, an “essay” was just a few paragraphs strung together somewhat coherently and then you got an A. They kept emphasizing how important all of this stuff was for university preparation, but I don’t know if I learned anything in high school that I actually used once after I threw my grad cap in the air. (My grad class was so lame only three of us threw our hats — I was so ready to be out of there. I also did not shed a tear when I graduated, I was way too happy to be out of that hell hole.)

When I got to university, however, things changed. The first essay that I got back was a C-. I was crushed, but realized very quickly how differently university life was. While most of my peers probably considered it freedom, I felt nothing but trapped. Suddenly there was no car, no friends, no family even. Just me sharing a small room with someone else.

Pot of Gold: Mint Edition

Monday, February 7th, 2005

I can’t wait to go home and dive into my on sale box of minty chocolately goodness! I caved when I saw them for $2.99 when I picked up more pencils (I swear that the cat’s been eating them, I’ve lost at least 4 in the past week) and some contact solution. I’m just waiting around right now to go into the studio so that I can finish up a project from last week, but in the event that we don’t have the time I’ll skip home and have some spaghetti, then possibly watch a movie and do some homework.

Today was my first day of library work, and I plugged in 4 hours. So that’s another 40 bucks in the bank for me, yeehaw! It’s not all that long, really. I’ll probably do another hour and a half tomorrow in between classes, maybe 2 hours if I can squeeze it in. I also have to practice tonight, but that’s not a problem now that I have that awesometastic keyboard! Anyways, I’m off to the studio for now, so I’ll leave this like this!

Oh, the Pain

Sunday, February 6th, 2005

Went to Snowball last night. Now I’m not feeling so great, but that’s what happens when you act like a typical university student. I did NOT intend to drink enough to get drunk, but I guess I learned what my limit is, for sure. But now I’ve got my ice water and the cat sleeping on my lap while I look through the pictures that we took last night. I’ll be posting some of them in the forum later on, so make sure you look for those!

It was a pretty uneventful night though, Casey and I quickly lost Robyn and Nadia (my and her roomie, respectively), and we danced and talked to people. I’m pretty sure I have blistered feet from my crazy four-inch heeled sandals. Anyways, I guess I should try and eat something, and maybe do some homework. Darned feeling bad. Maybe a nap is the best solution.

Blast from the Past

Thursday, February 3rd, 2005

While watching Dawson’s Creek, I remembered a certain feature on their website, that they had while the show was in it’s prime (about seasons 3 and 4), and that is the summer diaries and desktops. Basically, if you had a speedy internet connection and a penchant for all things Dawson, you could read the characters’ “emails” and read diaries during the summer months when the series was in reruns land. (I do have a bigger point, and yes I’m getting to it).

I had my own summer diary on this site, one of which I had quite forgotten about until tonight.

Sleep Is Great

Tuesday, February 1st, 2005

Oh how I wish I were sleeping. I’m trying so hard to stay awake right now. I’m sitting in the library again, trying to keep my eyes open. The snow is blinding outside, and the tiredness just makes me want to curl up in a study room and take a nap.

I’m hoping to go into New Minas and purchase my piano keyboard today. It will help a lot with my practicing, since it’ll be right there, in my apartment. I have a break after my voice lesson, so hopefully I can dash in and out before tech this afternoon. We were in the studio until midnight last night, trying to finish it up. And I left early! I don’t know how I managed to get up for Physics this morning, but I did.

I’ve been so busy lately, I don’t think I was online for more than 20 minutes yesterday, to just be online and kinda do nothing. Tonight, I definitely have some homework that I need to look at, and hopefully I will have my new keyboard with which to do it. Here’s hoping!
