Long Crappy Day
Well, got home from Halifax about an hour ago. It’s 4pm. I’ve been awake more than 12 hours on very little sleep. I feel like I’ve been run over, repeatedly. I’ll start from the beginning.
We had quite the hard time getting our hotel and everything figured out before we took off yesterday afternoon. It makes it difficult when his parents don’t know the layout of Halifax or the transportation schedules (heck, I hardly know those yet) and the flight was super mega early. 6:30am to be exact. I can’t remember the last time that I was awake so early. I didn’t sleep all that well anyways. However, we finally established that we would take the bus to the city, go to the Holiday Inn Express via taxi from the bus terminal, and then taxi early in the AM. We watched a movie and ordered in Pizza Delight and that was all fine. Fell asleep kinda early, but I kept waking up.
Finally the both of us were awake around 3:30 or so, and I hopped into the shower while he made some travel arrangements, and after I was all cleaned, I took off to exchange his American money and grab a moderate breakfast. I had some citrus drink + and apple. It wasn’t much but that, and some OJ the lady at the desk gave us, held me over for a few hours.
Got in the cab, got to the airport, checked him in and then we waited for a half an hour before we said goodbye and then I went off in search of my airbus ride back to the bus station. Everything was all fine and dandy, the bus arrived about 20 minutes after I bought my ticket and I took off for the Westin Hotel, which happens to be right next to the Acadian Lines bus terminal. Well, I must have got there around 6:40, so I had plenty of time to wait around for an 8:00 bus. Went inside the hotel and asked the guy at the desk where the nearest Tim Horton’s was. Five minutes away, he said. Things are still ok, I go grab a bagel and a hot chocolate and open up Mike’s “Catch Me If You Can” book that he lent me. Head back around 7:30 to catch the bus, everything is quiet and cloudy and early morning-ish. I ask the bus driver if the bus parked at the station is the one leaving for Kentville — and he said that there was no 8am bus to Kentville on weekends.
So this sucks. The next one leaves at 1:30pm and I have absolutely nowhere to go. As a last resort I go inside the Westin again and sit in the lobby, on a soft couch. By then, I can’t help it, I’m crying. I tried to make it unnoticeable, and if anyone saw they didn’t act it. After a few minutes I tried to calm down and starting thinking about what the heck I was going to do. I took off my sandals, cuddled into the couch, and started reading “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”. After I was about 150 pages in, I decided to eat and use the bathroom. Walked back over to Tim Horton’s for a small bowl of soup and juice. Called Craig on the walk back to the hotel, let him know I was stuck in the city for a few more hours, it was around 11:30 by that time.
I think I ended up reading to about page 250 or so, if not more, I kinda was too tired to read by the time bus time was getting near, so I took to “resting my eyes” and gazing around the lobby every now and then. Then I finally boarded the bus at 1:30 and got here around 3:00. I’m tired and cranky and missing Mike now, I’m hoping for a really quiet weekend to just sleep and catch up on my forum browsing. I have a few movies to watch if I so feel like it.
The fruit flies are still rampant in my kitchen but I’ve figured out where they’re coming from, so that helps a lot. I just need to somehow get myself to a place where I can pick up some sort of Drano-type solvent.
Other than that - I’m content to just sleep for the rest of the weekend.
